Liverpool – Luis Diaz Dedicates Goal to kidnapped father – EPL 2023

Liverpool - Luis Diaz dedicates goal against Luton to kidnapped father

In a heartfelt and emotional moment, Luis Diaz, the talented Liverpool forward, revealed a T-shirt with the words “Libertad Para Papa” (“Freedom for Papa”) after scoring a late equalizer during his first match since his parents were abducted in Colombia. Diaz managed to secure a goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time, earning Liverpool a 1-1 draw against Luton in the Premier League.

This moving gesture was in support of his father, who remains missing after being kidnapped by a guerrilla group known as ELN, which stands for the National Liberation Army. The abduction of Diaz’s parents occurred in Barrancas, a small town in Colombia, on October 28. Fortunately, his mother was rescued by the police shortly after the incident.

Luis Diaz shows heroic gesture by willing to play despite the horror.

After missing two Liverpool games, Diaz returned to training and expressed his readiness to play against Luton. Manager Jurgen Klopp included him on the bench, and he made his appearance in the 83rd minute. His goal, which appeared to come off his shoulder from Harvey Elliott’s cross, spared Liverpool from the embarrassment of losing to one of the Premier League’s less formidable teams.

Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager, acknowledged the significance of the moment but emphasized that the primary concern is the safe return of Diaz’s father. He shared that there were “positive” negotiations underway regarding the release of Diaz’s father.

Video below: Highlights of the match between Liverpool and Luton

Tahith Chong, playing for Luton, seemed poised to be the match-winner, converting a finish during an 80th-minute counterattack that followed a Liverpool corner. This result could have been a monumental victory for Luton, especially considering their rise from the non-leagues and financial difficulties in the past.

Luton’s manager, Rob Edwards, expressed immense pride in the club’s performance and determination, recognizing the tremendous effort put forth by the team. He emphasized their determination to compete and not relinquish their current position in the Premier League, despite facing formidable opponents.

This touching display of support for Luis Diaz’s family, combined with the determination of both Liverpool and Luton, made this match more than just a football game; it was a testament to the power of unity and resilience in the face of adversity

Luis Diaz - Colombian Government's efforts

The Colombian government has confirmed that Luis Díaz, the father of Liverpool footballer Luis Díaz, was abducted by left-wing rebels from the National Liberation Army (ELN). This incident occurred when Luis Manuel Díaz and his wife were taken at gunpoint on a Saturday. His mother was left behind in a car as the kidnappers fled, but the gunmen took away his father.

In response to the abduction, a significant deployment of hundreds of police and soldiers has been initiated to secure his release. Initially, the police had pointed towards a criminal gang as the likely culprits. However, a government delegation involved in peace negotiations with the ELN has now officially confirmed that the kidnapping was executed by “a unit belonging to the ELN.”

Reports indicate that a representative of the ELN has expressed their intent to release Díaz’s father in the upcoming days, offering a glimmer of hope in this distressing situation.

(Tottenham ) 1 : 4 (Chelsea)

Mauricio Pochettino‘s anticipated return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the evening of Monday, 7th November 2023, carried a weight of significance. The clash between Chelsea and Spurs promised to be a poignant encounter, as Pochettino, now at the helm of Chelsea, aims to halt his former club’s remarkable unbeaten streak in the Premier League. It was a match laden with nostalgia for Pochettino and Spurs fans alike, who fondly recall the Argentinian’s five-year tenure, during which he steered the club to their record Premier League points tally and secured four consecutive seasons in the UEFA Champions League.

Mauricio Pochettino Tottenham vs Chelsea EPL 2023 English Premier League

Pochettino‘s shift to Chelsea earlier this summer has seen mixed results, marked by inconsistency and frustration in front of goal. The Blues currently occupy the 13th spot in the Premier League table, having collected 12 points from their first ten matches.

Ange Postecoglou Chelsea vs Tottenham EPL 2023 English Premier League

In stark contrast, Tottenham’s decision to appoint Ange Postecoglou has paid immediate dividends. The Australian manager has overseen the club’s most impressive Premier League start to date, amassing an impressive 26 points out of a potential 30. To add to his accolades, Postecoglou has been named the Barclays Manager of the Month for both August and September, an unprecedented feat for a manager in his first two months at the helm of a Premier League team.

Now, let’s dive into the latest updates surrounding the upcoming clash between these two London rivals.

Tottenham vs Chelsea - Team News

  • Spurs’ left-back, Desinty Udogie, has been deemed fit for the match. However, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon, and Manor Solomon remain sidelined for the foreseeable future.
  • On the visitors’ side, Reece James is set to make his first start since August, while Mykhailo Mudryk is poised to return to the bench after completing full training last week.

Recent Encounters:
The last five meetings between these two powerhouses paint an intriguing picture:

  • 26 Feb 2023: Spurs 2-0 Chelsea
  • 14 Aug 2022: Chelsea 2-2 Spurs
  • 23 Jan 2022: Chelsea 2-0 Spurs
  • 19 Sep 2021: Spurs 0-3 Chelsea
  • 04 Feb 2021: Spurs 0-1 Chelsea

Tottenham vs Chelsea : Key Facts

  • Ange Postecoglou is on the brink of becoming the first Premier League manager to win his first five home matches since Craig Shakespeare in May 2017 for Leicester City. Tottenham’s last streak of five consecutive home wins dates back to 2018 under Pochettino.
  • Chelsea holds the record for the most Premier League away wins against Spurs, with 14, second only to Manchester United’s 15. The Blues have also scored the most away goals against Spurs in the competition, tallying an impressive 51.
  • Since Chelsea’s first match after the departure of Graham Potter, the Blues have secured the fewest wins of any Premier League side, with just four victories, putting them in a tie with Bournemouth for the least number of points earned (both with 18).
  • Chelsea has given more playing time to players aged 21 or younger in the Premier League this season than any other team. They’ve also awarded more debuts to players aged 21 or younger in the opening 10 matches of a Premier League season than any other club in history.

What the Managers Have Said:
Ange Postecoglou, in anticipation of this significant London derby, expressed his excitement, stating, “It’s a big game, it’s a London derby. Chelsea traditionally, particularly over the last 15 years, have been one of those sides that have set a benchmark for success. I think any time you play in these kinds of games, you look forward to them. The atmosphere is going to be great. We’re at home, which is brilliant for us. All of our home games so far have all been fairly exciting, and it should be another big night for us.”

Mauricio Pochettino, on the verge of revisiting his former stomping ground, shared his sentiments, saying, “It is true we didn’t get to say goodbye, because in the moment that we left the club, it was also a difficult situation, a difficult moment. Now is the opportunity to go back and see many people that are still working there. It is going to be an exciting moment. Ange and all the coaching staff that I know very well, they are doing a fantastic job. Then, of course, they have very good players, a very good team, and you can feel they can be a contender for the title.”

PSG versus Montpellier - About the match | PSG Wins 3 -0 | Facts

Final Score:

(PSG) 3 : 0 (Montpellier)

PSG vs Montpellier Ligue 1

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) clashed with Montpellier in a highly anticipated Ligue 1 encounter, which took place at the iconic Parc des Princes earlier today.

The reigning champions found themselves in the second position on the league table, boasting a commendable 21 points from the 10 matches they had contested. Their primary objective in this match was to surpass the current frontrunners, Nice, who held 22 points.

PSG vs Montpellier : PSG rises to top spot in Ligue-1

Paris Saint-Germain seized the top spot in the Ligue 1 standings with an impressive 3-0 victory on their home turf against Montpellier. This triumph temporarily placed the reigning champions at the summit of the league, although OGC Nice could reclaim the position should they emerge victorious against Rennes on Sunday.

Under the guidance of their manager, Luis Enrique, PSG exhibited their dominance with a stylish performance at the Parc des Princes.

As the match unfolded, Montpellier came tantalizingly close to taking an early lead when Achraf Hakimi and Marquinhos were caught off guard by a long ball played over the top. Teji Savanier, following a well-placed cross, unleashed a fierce shot at the far post, only to be denied by a superb recovery challenge from Nordi Mukiele.

PSG vs Montpellier - First Goal

The home side, despite adopting a high defensive line in the early stages, managed to break the deadlock after just ten minutes. Hakimi delivered a low cross that Kylian Mbappe cleverly dummyed, allowing Lee Kang-in to find the top corner from the edge of the box with precision.

This opening goal seemed to invigorate PSG, with Ousmane Dembele breaking away from the Montpellier defense shortly after, forcing a formidable near-post save from Benjamin Lecomte. From the subsequent corner, Mbappe unleashed a powerful volley that narrowly missed its mark.

PSG vs Montpellier - Second Goal

In the second half, Hakimi showcased his striking prowess with a fine effort that Lecomte could only parry back into a dangerous area. Unfortunately for PSG, Randal Kolo Muani was unable to capitalize as he struggled to set himself up properly, and Montpellier cleared their lines.

Just before the hour mark, the champions extended their lead with a second goal. Warren Zaire-Emery orchestrated a well-executed give-and-go with Dembele, breaching the Montpellier defense, and unselfishly returned the ball for the teenager to drive into the roof of Lecomte’s net.

PSG vs Montpellier - Third Goal

PSG continued to assert their dominance, and they secured their third goal through substitute Vitinha, courtesy of Hakimi’s link-up play with Dembele on the right flank. Hakimi’s cross found the Portuguese midfielder in close range, and he calmly converted the opportunity.

Ligue1 PSG Montpellier - Vitinha PSG vs Montpellier

Dembele continued to dazzle the crowd and sent the Parc des Princes into a frenzy as he elegantly set up Fabian Ruiz with a delightful flick. However, Lecomte managed to parry away Ruiz’s attempt.

In the dying moments of stoppage time, Goncalo Ramos had a goal disallowed due to an offside flag. Mbappe narrowly mistimed his run to meet Dembele’s clever ball over the top, denying PSG a fourth goal. They settled for a well-deserved 3-0 victory.

PSG had shown remarkable resilience after suffering a setback in the Champions League, where they were defeated by Newcastle. In their last four domestic league fixtures, they strung together a series of victories, demonstrating their offensive prowess by netting three goals in each of these matches. As they prepared to face Montpellier, they aimed to further extend their winning streak and maintain their impressive form.

Montpellier, on the other hand, was riding on the wave of confidence generated by their recent triumph over Toulouse, where they secured a convincing 3-0 victory. However, it was crucial to acknowledge the substantial challenge they faced when encountering PSG, particularly on the road.

Why is Pakistan cricket not what it was earlier? Is it the start of its downfall with World Cup 2023?

Why is Pakistan cricket not what it was earlier?

Lost Aggression in Pakistan cricket team

Earlier when one thought of Pakistan cricket team, he would visualize animal-like aggression, whether it would be the fast bowlers like Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram, Shoaib Akhtar, and even to some extent Wahab Riaz. They always tried to intimidate the batsman with their fiery balls, and their aggressive sledging techniques. The batsmen also used to spit fire with their aggressive attitude, with Aamir Sohail being the prime example for it, and who can forget the 1996 world cup spat between Aamit Sohail and Venkatesh Prasad, which ended with Venkatesh Prasad dismissing him of the next ball. Have a look at this incident in the video below.

Honestly, these battles on the field with sledging and hostile environment on the ground used to make the Pakistani team a feared entity, which is no longer the case with current players who can hardly be seen engaging in such acts or in any way trying to intimidate the opponents. In tournaments like the World Cup, the players need to show aggression, which in a way may act on the opponent’s mind and can cause them to commit mistakes.

Video below: Aamir Sohail v/s Venkatesh Prasad in the 1996 World Cup

Defensive approach of Pakistan cricket

With the rising of T20 matches, almost all of the teams have started being super-aggressive in their batting, with the batters trying to utilize the starting powerplays with fielding restrictions to get maximum runs and hitting sixes. Pakistani batsmen on the other hand, have been found to be playing old-school cricket, where the focus seems to be on staying at the pitch and scoring with minimum risks towards the start and attempting to go aggressive towards the end of 50 overs, and a testament of this fact has been that Pakistani batsmen had not hit a six in the first 10 overs in the ODI matches played in the year 2023, until their 2023 world cup match against Afghanistan.

Pakistan used to have explosive self-less batsmen like Aamir Sohail, Shahid Afridi, Imran Nazir, Abdul Razzaq in their glory days, which is a big gap in their batting line-up now. Have a look at the video below, which shows how Shahid Afridi and Imran Nazir used to approach batting.

Video below: Aggressive batting by Shahid Afridi and Imran Nazir

Chaotic Management of Pakistan Cricket

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has for always been surrounded with controversies and accusations from the former and current players for poor management and decision-making. There has always been news of rifts between the captains and the PCB.

The PCB chairman position has been a volatile post to hold. Ramiz Raja, the last PCB chairman was sacked from this position in December 2022, just an year after his appointment. He was supposed to hold the office for 3 years but got sacked after Pakistan suffered a humiliating domestic test series white-wash against England, though there are speculations that ouster of Imran Khan’s government in April 2022, had lead to Ramiz Raja’s exit from PCB. He is currently serving as a commentator in the ICC World cup 2023

PCB has been said to be always under impact of the government, therefore making the position even more wobbly. With the management being so unstable, the players are destined to get impacted.

Struggle with bowling for Pakistan Cricket team

Pakistani bowling has not been up to the mark recently, especially when it is compared against teams like India, Australia and South Africa, who have been great with their execution, low economy rates, and good average.

Pakistan has had a legacy of being a great pace-bowling side as legend fast bowlers like Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Aqib Javed, Shoaib Akhtar, who brought fear into the opponents minds even while they were in their run-ups to bowl. Who can forget the fiery run-ups that Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar used to have, and how they along with Wasim Akram used to bowl the most dreaded swinging yorkers

The current Pakistan team has Shahin Afridi who showed glimpses of the past legacy of these fast bowlers with his pacy and swinging deliveries, but after his knee injury suffered earlier in 2023, he has lost that kick in his bowling. Haris Rauf, the fast bowler who consistently is able to breach the 145+ mark speed, has still been baffled by the batsmen as they have took on him aggressively. Naseem Shah, was promising for Pakistan’s bowling, but unfortunately had to miss out on the World cup 2023 due to injury.

Pakistan is struggling even with their spin bowling. It used to have great spinners like Abdul Qadir, Saqlain Mushtaq, Mushtaq Ahmad, Danish Kaneria, and even Shoaib Malik. The current team misses having that spark in spin bowling with dismal performances from the spinners like Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz and Iftikhar Ahmad, unlike other teams who have world-class spinners in their ranks like Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravichandran Ashwin for India, Abdul Rashid and Moeen Ali for England, Maharaj for South Africa, Adam Zampa for Australia.

Video below: Pakistan's golden era of fast bowling

Forgettable fielding by the Pakistan cricket team

Earlier Asian teams were not known to be good or athletic fielders, which has now changed with India, Sri Lanka, and even Bangladesh, and now Afghanistan, where these teams have become excellent fielding sides, with great fielders like Ravindra Jadeja, Virat Kohli, Shubham Gill, and others.

Pakistan on the other hand, still seems to be stuck in the 1990s and 2000s era, where it was not a big-deal if fielders were not agile and athletic. Pakistan cricket team has for long been heavily criticized for their poor fielding, as they seem to be dropping easy catches, giving away boundaries, giving over-throws and giving away easy runs. Pakistan has dropped 3 critical catches so far in the world cup 2023, which included chances for Kusal Mendis and David Warner, and both went on to score centuries in those games.

Pakistan’s boundary fielding has also been school-boy standard, as they missed to stop multiple boundaries. We have all seen the legendary meme of a Pakistani spectator standing in the background staring at a Pakistani fielder after he dropped a catch against Australia. Have a look at it below. The internet is filled with videos of Pakistan’s fielding mishaps.

Ever the Pakistani captain Babar Azam took a jibe at his team’s fielding by saying “Whenever you are fielding, it is only with attitude. And I don’t see any attitude from the team.”.

Jos Buttler, the England captain, was obviously very disappointed with team’s defeat, was not looking very optimistic about the side’s chance of reaching the semi-finals. He was questioned by the reporters, whether he thinks he should still be in the team and captaining the side, to which he responded he still has belief in himself as a player and as a captain to lead the team in future.

Matthew Mott, the England head coach, also agreed that their team is in a bit of a trouble now in the race for the semis. Mott told Sky Sports, “Mathematically, we’d have a lot of things to go our way”

Borussia Dortmund private jet Bundesliga football club Mats Hummels

Post their football match against Mexico, Borussia Dortmund football club team has a match against Wender Bremen club in the Bundesliga back in Germany. These two matches are 70 hours apart, therefore Borussia Dortmund has allocated a private jet to the Germany team, so that the German players – Mats Hummels, Julian Brandt, Niklas Sulewho and Niklas Fuulkreg, who are a part of Borussia Dortmund club, can begin their journey back to Dortmund early and thus face lesser incoveniance and are ready for the Bundlesliga match.

Borussia Dortmund - A costly covenience

The private jet would cost 100,000 Euros to Borussia Dortmund. Noteworthy, that most of the German football clubs who are a part of the Bundlesliga were against the decision of German team’s visit to Unites States.

Another player of Bundleslilga club – Gio Reyna, who plays for Unites States will be returning to Germany on a later date than the German players.

This decision of Borussia Dortmund was defended by Mats Hummels, the 34 year old German player, as he commented that this was a smart move by the club.

Joran van der Sloot, the alleged killer of Natalee Holloway, pleaded guilty for wire fraud and extortion charges, on 18th October’23 in a Birmingham federal courtroom. Background of the incident (Alleged)

The disappearance of 18-year old Natalee Holloway had made international news back in the year 2005 – when she did not return home to Mountain Brook, Alabama after a fateful school graduation trip to Aruba on May 30, 2005. Natalee was last seen in a car with 17-year old Van der Sloot, who was a student himself in Aruba at the time, along with two of his other friends. Once further investigation started, Joran van der Sloot and his friends – the brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe were picked up by the Aruban police several times for questioning. However, they were let go citing lack of evidence each time.

Turning point - Another murder case on Van Der Sloot

While the Holloway investigation was underway for all these years; in 2012, van der Sloot was convicted of the murder of Stephany Flores in Peru – committed on May 30, 2010. Natalee Holloway was declared legally dead by the courts at the behest of her father in January 2012.

Extradition and Sentence for Joran Van Der Sloot

Van der Sloot was extradited to the United States earlier this year in June 2023 to undergo trial for the extortion and wire fraud charges linked to Holloway’s death. The trial saw significant development today with van der Sloot pleading guilty to the charges of wire fraud and extortion. While further details are yet to come, Natalee’s mother Beth Holloway also spoke in court that van der Sloot bludgeoned the teen Holloway to death as she rejected his sexual advances and then went on to dump her body in the ocean. Van der Sloot has confessed that he killed Natalee with a cinder block before dumping her in the ocean.

While van der Sloot has been sentenced to a 20-year prison term by the Birmingham federal courts, he may not be required to return to the States for the extortion and wire fraud charges, if he serves more than 20 years in the Peruvian prison system, where he currently has been serving term towards a 28-year imprisonment for Flores’ murder.
