England qualify for the semi-finals if..

  • England wins ALL of its remaining matches in the World Cup, with big margins to improve the Net Run Rate, AND
  • India wins ALL of its remaining matches, except the one with England, AND
  • Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh do not cross 10 points
The chances of the above to happen is very low, but still is a ray of hope for England.

Can England qualify – what do the experts and team say on this

Jos Buttler, the England captain, was obviously very disappointed with team’s defeat, was not looking very optimistic about the side’s chance of reaching the semi-finals. He was questioned by the reporters, whether he thinks he should still be in the team and captaining the side, to which he responded he still has belief in himself as a player and as a captain to lead the team in future.

Matthew Mott, the England head coach, also agreed that their team is in a bit of a trouble now in the race for the semis. Mott told Sky Sports, “Mathematically, we’d have a lot of things to go our way”

Eng vs SA England vs South Africa team result
  • David Malan (Left hand batsman) & Johny Bairstow (Right hand batsman) : South Africa has recently been batting aggressively, with two 300+ and two 400+ scores in the last two months, which calls for aggressive opening stands.
  • Jos Buttler (Right hand batsman) – He has not clicked in the world cup 2023, making him a time-bomb ready to explode.
  • Ben Stoker (Left hand batsman) – He has been the go-to man whenever England has been in trouble, and the current situation of England after the recent disastrous loss against Afghanistan, calls for Ben Stokes to step-up.
  • Reece Topley (Left arm fast) – He has proved to deathly recently with his left arm pacers, and should be a good addition to have along with Mark Wood, Chris Woakes as right arm pacers.
  • Abdul Rashid (Right arm leg spin) – Abdhul Rashid is yet to stike
